My husband and I eat this tilapia rice bowl at least once a week. Either we eat this or my salmon sweet potato bowl.
It’s simple but so delicious.
The tilapia cooks in a honey coconut aminos glaze that becomes slightly caramelized in the pan, giving the fish a sweet and savory coating.
When you pair that with warm rice and fresh toppings like tomato, onion, and cilantro, everything comes together into a balanced bowl that feels light but still filling.
It’s also one of those meals you can make on a busy day because the entire tilapia and rice bowl comes together in about 20 minutes.

Why You’ll Love This Tilapia Rice Bowl
- It’s quick to make. This tilapia rice bowl comes together in about 20 minutes, which makes it perfect for weeknight dinners.
- The glaze is simple but flavorful. Honey and coconut aminos create a slightly sweet, savory sauce that caramelizes beautifully on the fish.
- It’s a balanced meal. You get protein from the tilapia, carbohydrates from the rice, and freshness from the toppings.
- It’s easy to customize. You can change the toppings depending on what you have in your fridge.
- It works well for lunch or dinner. This tilapia and rice bowl is light enough for lunch but still satisfying enough for dinner.
Before we get into the ingredients, one of the things I like most about this tilapia rice bowl is how versatile it is.
Once you have your cooked fish and rice, you can build the bowl with different vegetables, sauces, or herbs depending on what you like.
Ingredients for a Tilapia Rice Bowl
Tilapia fillets: I usually buy frozen tilapia fillets, but feel free to use fresh ones..
Olive oil: Olive oil helps the fish cook evenly and prevents it from sticking to the pan.

Soy Sauce: You can also sub with coconut aminos.. It’s similar to soy sauce but with a milder taste.
Honey: Honey balances the soy sauce and helps create a glossy glaze as the fish cooks.
Garlic powder
Black pepper
Paprika
Dash seasoning: I love this dash seasoning, but you can substitute it with chicken bouillon.
Salt: Salt is optional because soy sauce already contains some saltiness.
Cooked rice: Rice forms the base of the bowl and makes the meal more filling.
Tomato: Diced tomato adds freshness and a slight acidity that balances the glaze.
Onion: Chopped onion adds crunch.
Cilantro: Fresh cilantro add freshness to the bowl and brings everything together.
Yum Yum Sauce: I always finish with yum yum sauce. This is what puts everything together. PLEAASEE don’t skip it.
Lime or lemon juice (optional)

How to Make a Tilapia Rice Bowl
Step 1: Make the sauce
In a small bowl mix the soy sauce (or coconut aminos), honey, garlic powder, paprika, dash seasoning and black pepper.
Stir until the honey is fully combined with the sauce.
Step 2: Season and Cook the tilapia

Pat the tilapia fillets dry and brush them lightly with olive oil.
Pour or brush the honey coconut aminos mixture over the fish so both sides are coated.
Heat a skillet over medium heat.
Cook the tilapia for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, spooning the sauce over the fish while it cooks. The glaze will begin to caramelize slightly as the fish cooks.
The tilapia is done when it flakes easily with a fork.
Step 3: Build the bowl

Add cooked rice to the bottom of each bowl.
Place the cooked tilapia on top of the rice.
Add the fresh toppings including diced tomato, chopped onion, and cilantro.
Spoon any extra sauce from the pan over the fish and rice so the flavor spreads through the bowl. Top with yum yum sauce.
If you like a little extra brightness, squeeze fresh lime or lemon juice over the bowl before serving.

Tips for the Best Tilapia and Rice Bowl
Pat the tilapia dry before seasoning it so the glaze sticks better to the fish.
Cook the fish over medium heat so the glaze can caramelize without burning.
If you want more sauce in the bowl (especially if you don’t like yum yum sauce), you can double the glaze ingredients.

Adding fresh toppings like tomato, onion, and cilantro helps balance the sweet and savory flavors of the fish.
This tilapia rice bowl is one of those meals that feels simple but still delicious.
The tender glazed tilapia, warm rice, and fresh toppings come together into a bowl that’s easy to make, satisfying to eat, and perfect for lunch or dinner.
