5 Kitchen Essentials Every Cook Needs To Be More Productive

kitchen essentials every cook needs

There are kitchen essentials and then there are kitchen essentials every cook needs to be productive. Today, I’m going to be discussing the latter. Because these essentials have made cooking easier and quicker for me.

Before purchasing some of these essentials, I used to manually do things from scratch. For example, if I wanted to boil rice; I would heat up my stove, boil some water and then add the necessary quantity of rice.

Nowadays, I don’t do that anymore. Because rice cookers have completely changed the game for me.

Therefore, if you want to be more productive in the kitchen, these items would help you meet that goal.

5 Kitchen Essentials Every Cook Needs

  • Food processor

When I first went vegan, every person I knew who was vegan had a food processor. I had no idea why this equipment was so important until I decided to purchase one myself.

And honestly, it changed the game for me.

With a food processor, you can easily achieve the consistency you desire in your mixture. Unlike regular blenders that need a small amount of liquid to process, food processors don’t require any liquid.

This makes preparing soups, vegan burgers, and all other kinds of paste much easier. Plus you never have to worry about any watery consistency.

One thing I’ve recently been using my food processor to make is oat flour.

I simply throw some oat grains in my food processor and blend until a fine flour consistency is achieved. I use this in many recipes, but one that I particularly love using it for is oat cupcakes.

  • Cast Iron Skillet

Trying to make the best Roti? OR simply looking for a pan to evenly cook your meals? Look no further from a cast iron skillet.

  • Rice Cooker

Earlier in this post, I mentioned how I used to manually boil rice until I discovered rice cookers.

Great thing is, I still haven’t given up on using it. Till today, my rice cooker follows me everywhere and causes me to spend way less time in the kitchen.

The great thing about rice cookers is that it is fairly inexpensive. I think I purchased mine for less than $20, and I’ve had it for over a year now.

Definitely a great investment to help save time in the kitchen.

  • Keurig Coffee Maker

Fun fact, I purchased my Keurig coffee maker at goodwill for 10 bucks. It happened to be one of those kitchen essentials that honestly found me at the right time.

Back then, I was in college and super broke. Yet, I needed a coffee maker to help in staying awake when those engineering classes were kicking my butt. My Keurig showed up and the rest is history.

Therefore, if you are always on the go and you barely have time to prepare coffee in the morning. Then, I suggest picking up a Keurig. It makes getting that good cup of coffee much easier and quicker.

  • Mini Blender

I used to have a huge blender in my kitchen that I thought was a great investment, until I realized it was more of a pain than a blessing.

One thing you may or may not know about me is the fact that I love making smoothies. And anything that can make my smoothie making process quicker will always have my $$$$.

Sadly, huge blenders make the process very inconvenient and more time consuming.

The measurements were never always accurate. And sometimes, I would make way more than I could drink. Not only that, but I always needed a cup to pour the smoothie mix into, which made doing dishes a pain.

Thankfully, with mini blenders, I don’t have to worry about those negatives.

With my mini blender, my measurements are always pretty accurate. I always prepare just enough for me to finish and most importantly, I drink my smoothie straight from the blending cup. This has made doing dishes less of a pain. Plus, if I were running late to work and needed a quick smoothie, I could easily take it on the go.

There are several reasons why you may want a mini blender, but if you do struggle with some of what I just mentioned, then I would recommend purchasing one.
