If you told me years ago that sitting quietly with my thoughts would change my life, I wouldn’t have believed you.
If you had asked me back then what I thought about meditation, I probably would have shrugged it off as something other people did—people who had time, patience, or some mystical understanding of life that I didn’t possess.
To me, it seemed like a far-off concept, something reserved for monks, yogis, or self-help gurus.
But life has a funny way of steering you toward the things you need most, often in the most unexpected ways.
Today, meditation is more than a practice for me—it’s the foundation of who I am.
It’s my anchor during life’s storms, my daily dose of clarity, and my gateway to a version of myself I didn’t even know existed.
But getting here wasn’t easy.
My journey to meditation wasn’t born out of curiosity or peace—it was born out of pain, loss, and an urgent need to heal.
In this blog post, I want to share my story of how meditation changed my life.
It’s not just about the practice itself but about the transformation that comes when you truly begin to explore the power of your mind.
Whether you’ve been meditating for years, you’ve tried it a few times, or you’re skeptical about the entire idea, I hope my story inspires you to think differently.
Because if meditation could change my life so profoundly, I believe it has the power to do the same for you.
From Rock Bottom to Breaking Free: My Journey of Faith and Deconstruction
In 2018, my life fell apart.
I was in my junior year of college when a series of traumatic events pushed me to the edge.
Pain and grief consumed me, and I found myself questioning everything I thought I knew about life, my purpose, and how to move forward.
To make matters worse, my father was diagnosed with kidney failure. Watching someone I loved so deeply endure such suffering was unbearable.
His illness became a breaking point, pushing me further into despair. I felt lost, confused, and desperate for anything that could help me make sense of the chaos.
In my search for meaning and comfort, a close friend reintroduced me to Christianity—the faith I had grown up with.
Encouraged by their testimony, I decided to give it a chance, hoping it would bring the peace, clarity, and guidance I so desperately needed.
At first, returning to Christianity felt like coming home—a familiar and comforting refuge in the midst of life’s chaos.
I hoped that rediscovering my faith would bring me the peace and guidance I so desperately needed.
But as I delved deeper into the teachings and the Bible, I began to notice contradictions that I couldn’t reconcile.
As an engineer who was trained to think critically, most of the text made no sense from a logical standpoint.
Thus, what had once seemed like a source of solace began to feel restrictive and confusing.
Rather than finding clarity or a closer connection to the divine, I became increasingly isolated and conflicted.
The harder I tried to conform, the more disconnected I felt, not only from the faith but also from myself.
I wrestled with questions that had no satisfying answers, and the weight of guilt and doubt grew heavier with each passing day.
What I thought would heal my wounds only seemed to deepen them, leaving me feeling more confused than ever.
Then my father passed away, and the grief was overwhelming.
Desperate for comfort and answers, I tried to go deeper into my faith, hoping to uncover something I might have been missing.
Instead, I found myself feeling even more trapped in a belief system that no longer made sense to me.
Eventually, I reached a breaking point and made the difficult decision to step away from Christianity.
This wasn’t about rejecting the idea of a higher power altogether but rather about letting go of a version of faith—and a ‘God’—that no longer aligned with who I was or what I needed.
It was a deeply personal decision to leave the faith, and I chose to keep it to myself.
I didn’t want the opinions or concerns of others, especially Christians, to interfere with the fragile, new path I was beginning to explore.
Walking away was terrifying, but it also opened the door to a new chapter in my life.
For the first time, I began to seek healing and understanding on my own terms, free from the constraints of a belief system that had held me back.
It allowed me to explore a deeper connection with myself, my inner strength, and the universe around me in a way that felt authentic, liberating, and profoundly healing.
Discovering Meditation
Stepping away from my faith and Christianity left me feeling disconnected.
Like many who have gone through deconstruction, I experienced my own season of grieving the beliefs I once held so deeply.
While the process brought freedom and relief from the mental load I had been carrying, it also left an undeniable void.
I was no longer clinging to this mythical “Christian God,” but I also didn’t know where to turn for healing or direction.
In my search for something to hold onto, I stumbled upon the work of Dr. Joe Dispenza and the power of meditation.
At first, I was skeptical.
Meditation seemed like one of those abstract ‘new age’ ideas that didn’t align with my logical mind.
But what intrigued me about Dispenza’s work was the science behind it.
He spoke about the mind-body connection, the power of thought, and how meditation could rewire the brain.
As someone who had always been fascinated by neuroscience (and actually majored in it at one point in college), I found this approach to be very appealing.
It wasn’t just abstract spirituality… it was measurable, actionable, and grounded in evidence.
Still, I hesitated.
Part of me wasn’t ready to dive into something so unfamiliar, especially after walking away from years of indoctrination.
But another part of me knew I had nothing to lose.
So, I decided to give it a try.
At first, meditation wasn’t easy. Sitting in silence felt foreign, even uncomfortable.
My mind would race, jumping from thought to thought, and I often wondered if I was doing it “wrong.”
But I stuck with it.
I started small, using guided meditation resources that helped me stay focused and made the process feel less daunting.
Day by day, something began to shift.
Meditation started to feel less like a chore and more like a refuge.
It became a place where I could quiet the chaos in my mind and reconnect with myself.
For the first time in a long time, I felt peace—peace that didn’t come from external validation or meeting some sky daddy’s expectations but from within.
And then came the realization that took me by surprise: I’ve done this before.
Meditation reminded me of the quiet moments I cherished as a child before any indoctrination– sitting in stillness and letting my imagination run wild.
Back then, I didn’t call it meditation, but it gave me the same sense of calm and wonder I was now rediscovering.
It felt like coming home to a part of myself I had forgotten.

The Transformation Begins
As I leaned into meditation, what started as an experiment quickly became my bread and butter.
At first, I didn’t expect much. I thought it might help me feel a little calmer or give me a way to cope with stress.
But what I didn’t realize was that meditation would change my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
Over time, I began to notice subtle shifts.
My mind, once a place of racing thoughts and constant anxiety, started to quiet.
I was learning to observe my thoughts and emotions without being consumed by them.
Meditation gave me the space to breathe, to process, and to release the pain I had been holding onto for so long.
And then came the most profound change: I began to see myself differently.
For years, I had labeled myself by my struggles, my past religion, my failures, and the expectations of others.
But meditation allowed me to strip away those layers.
It taught me to connect with the core of who I am—not the version shaped by fear, grief, or outside pressures, but the version of me that had always existed beneath it all.
Even as life continued to throw challenges my way, I found myself reacting differently.
When tragedy struck again with the loss of my sister in 2020, I grieved, but I wasn’t consumed by despair.
Meditation taught me how to ground myself to find balance even in the face of immense loss.
I realized that while I couldn’t control the external events of my life, I could control how I responded to them.
And that shift in perspective changed everything.
A Moment of Miracles
By the end of 2020, life tested me yet again.
A car accident left me hospitalized with a broken femur and humerus just six weeks before my college graduation.
The injuries were severe, and the prognosis was daunting.
The doctors told me it would take months to recover, and walking unassisted seemed like a distant dream.
But I refused to let those limitations define me.
By then, I had learned enough about the mind-body connection to believe in the power of my thoughts.
While the medical care I received was critical, I knew my mindset would play an equally important role in my recovery.
Each time the doctors and nurses left my room, I turned inward.
I visualized myself walking without crutches, fully healed and strong.
In my mind, I saw myself taking step after step, feeling the strength return to my legs.
And then, as small as the effort might have been, I would try to move—just one step closer to the vision I held for myself.
To everyone’s amazement, I walked out of the hospital without crutches just ten days after my accident.
It felt like a miracle, but deep down, I knew it was the result of a profound truth I had come to understand: the mind and body are deeply connected.
The thoughts we choose to cultivate have the power to influence our reality.
Six weeks later, I crossed the stage at my college graduation. I was walking, I was whole, and I was proud.
Life Beyond Limits
That moment in the hospital, defying the odds and walking out on my own, was a turning point.
It wasn’t just about physical recovery—it was a testament to the power of my mind and the possibilities that meditation had unlocked within me.
But the miracles didn’t stop there.
During that same period, something extraordinary happened: a random stranger gifted me a new car.
It was completely unexpected and felt like a sign that the universe was working in my favor, aligning things in ways I couldn’t explain.
Not long after, I met my husband.
The timing felt serendipitous, as though the universe was conspiring to bring us together.
Within three months, we were married—a decision that felt as natural and right as the way we had found each other.
It was as if all the pieces of my life that had once felt scattered and broken were finally falling into place.
Shortly after, I landed a high-paying job that was beyond anything I had imagined for myself.
It wasn’t just about the money; it was about stepping into a version of my life that reflected the abundance I had started to cultivate within.
And then came another personal milestone: I lost over 110 pounds, returning to the weight I had been in high school.
This wasn’t just a physical transformation—it was a reflection of the internal changes I had made.
Meditation had taught me how to align my thoughts, emotions, and actions with the life I wanted to live.
But more than the external successes, what stood out the most was how I felt inside.

A New Perspective on Life
Meditation didn’t just help me overcome challenges or achieve my goals—it gave me a new way of seeing the world.
I learned to find beauty in every moment, even the difficult ones.
Challenges that once felt insurmountable became opportunities for growth.
Pain became a teacher, showing me where I needed to heal and how I could move forward stronger than before.
Meditation also taught me how to protect my peace.
I became highly intentional about who and what I allowed into my mind. Social media, the news, and other sources of negativity no longer held the same sway over me.
I reduced my screen time, let go of everything that no longer served me, and focused on cultivating a mindset of gratitude and positivity.
And then there was the glow.
People began to notice a change in me—not just in how I looked, but in how I carried myself.
They would tell me I was glowing, and I truly believe that meditation played a role in that.
By prioritizing my inner peace and consciously choosing what I focused on, I had created a radiance that came from within.
The Power of Consistency
One of the greatest lessons meditation has taught me is the power of consistency.
It wasn’t a quick fix or an overnight transformation—it was the result of showing up for myself every single day, even when it felt difficult or uncomfortable.
There were days when my mind felt restless, when sitting in stillness felt impossible.
But I kept going, trusting that even those moments of resistance were part of the process.
Over time, meditation became as essential to me as breathing. It wasn’t just something I did—it became a way of life.
Through consistent practice, I’ve discovered a profound truth: our outer world is often a reflection of our inner world.
By changing the way I think, feel, and respond, I’ve been able to create a life that feels aligned with my deepest desires.
Why Meditation is Worth Trying
Meditation did for me what nothing else could.
It helped me heal from unimaginable pain, find clarity in chaos, and build a life I’m proud of.
It didn’t just change my life—it saved it.
I often think back to the version of myself who felt broken and lost, searching for answers in all the wrong places.
If I could go back in time, I’d tell her this: The healing you’re searching for isn’t outside of you—it’s already within you.
Meditation gave me the tools to tap into that inner power, and for that, I will always be grateful.
If you’ve been considering meditation but aren’t sure if it’s for you, I encourage you to give it a try.
You don’t need to be perfect at it, and you don’t need to have all the answers.
All you need is a willingness to sit with yourself and see what unfolds.
A Life Forever Changed
Looking back, it’s hard to believe how far I’ve come.
The person I am today feels worlds apart from the one who started this journey, and yet, she’s still me—just a more whole, peaceful, and empowered version of myself.
Meditation has shown me that life’s challenges don’t have to define us.
Instead, they can shape us into stronger, wiser, and more compassionate people. And while the path hasn’t always been easy, it’s been worth every step.
Meditation changed my life in ways I never imagined.
It gave me the strength to overcome pain, the clarity to find my purpose, and the courage to create a life I love.
If you’re on the fence about starting this practice, I hope my story inspires you to take that first step.
Who knows? It might just change your life, too.
