If you’ve been following my blog, you already know how much meditation has changed my life.
But when I first gave it a try, I’ll be honest, I thought it was the most boring thing ever.
Sitting in silence with my thoughts swirling around didn’t feel relaxing at all.
I used to think, ‘How do people actually enjoy this?’
Over time, though, I realized that it wasn’t meditation itself that was the problem.
I just needed the right tools to help me ease in.
That’s why I started exploring meditation apps.
If you’ve ever typed “best meditation apps for beginners” into Google, you’ve probably been overwhelmed by the endless lists.
But today, I want to share the three apps that actually stuck with me and changed my life for the better.
These are the apps I swear by, especially if you’re someone who’s just starting out.
1. Activations (formerly Superhuman)

This one is a little different than your typical meditation app, but that’s exactly why I love it.
Activations (which used to be called Superhuman) is more about tapping into your higher self than just sitting in silence.
And to be honest, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t play at least one soundtrack.
As someone who considers myself a spiritual atheist, I like that it doesn’t feel too “woo woo” but still gives me a way to connect with my spiritual side.
I first discovered this app after listening to Mimi Bouchard’s podcast years ago, and honestly, it changed my entire perspective on meditation.
I never enjoyed the idea of forcing my brain to quiet down, but Activations made me see it as a way to be mindful of my thoughts and clear my mind while focusing on manifesting the life I wanted.
It feels powerful, not boring.
Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but the difference it’s made in my mindset and focus makes it worth every penny.
2. Insight Timer

Whenever I need variety (and I get bored with listening to Mimi’s voice), I switch over to Insight Timer.
It’s much more affordable than Activations, and the best part is that it has thousands of different creators posting guided meditations.
If you’re someone who gets bored easily (like me), you’ll appreciate the options here.
You can find everything from short two-minute meditations to hour-long deep dives, as well as talks and courses.
For beginners, especially, having different voices and styles helps you figure out what actually resonates with you.
Some days I want a calming voice guiding me through my breath, and other days I want something focused on visualization.
With Insight Timer, I never feel boxed in.
3. Calm

The Calm app is probably one you’ve already heard about, and there’s a reason for that.
While Activations is what I use to connect with manifestation, and Insight Timer is my go-to for variety, Calm is the app I rely on when my mind needs some stillness.
It has guided meditations, yes, but what I really love is how it helps me relax in a practical way.
Whether it’s through bedtime stories, breathing exercises, or music, Calm always feels like it’s helping me unwind instead of asking me to force inner stillness.
If you’re not into spirituality and you just want meditation to help with stress or sleep, Calm is the perfect option.
It’s straightforward, user-friendly, and makes the practice feel approachable for anyone.
What’s the Best Meditation App for Absolute Beginners?
This is a question I get asked all the time, and the truth is…it depends on what you’re looking for.
If you’re interested in combining manifestation and mindset shifts, I’d point you to Activations.
If you want something affordable with endless options, Insight Timer is the way to go.
And if your main goal is stress relief or better sleep, Calm has everything you need.
The beauty of starting with apps is that you don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Having a guide in your pocket makes meditation less intimidating, and over time, you’ll find your own rhythm.
For me, these three apps gave me a way into a practice I once thought was impossible to stick with, and now meditation is something I actually look forward to.
